A site-specific installation that maps the objects discarded on the streets of Geneva (CH)

After Belongings comes in a form of a pavilion representing a 3D map of the city, showing the coordinates and density of the objects found in each neighbourhood of Geneva. It is followed up by a newspaper showing the specifications of each object and stories behind them created from the interviews with past owners.

The project investigates what kind of social classes live in which neighbourhoods by conducting series of questionnaires with its citizens. Based on people’s answers, the pavilion is built on 3 different levels that can serve not only as data sections for reading the information but also as a furniture to relax, sit or lay down–to walk though the city. Can the type of objects found on the streets be correlated with the wealth of the area it has been found in? The goal of this project is to show the density and variety of the objects we throw away every day from our homes and to ask ourselves: How do we manage our belongings? More than mere tools, luxuries or junks, our possessions become extensions of the self.

After Belongings is my Master project and it was tutored by Fidel Peugeot. The newspaper layout and illustrations are done by Anne Dousset
